Prediction of Bone Length from Bone Fragments

Forensic anthropology, as a sub-discipline of applied physical anthropology, since its inception has contributed immensely in crime scene investigations especially in identification of unknown skeletal material. It is established through numerous studies that long limbs bones have a definite relationship with stature of an individual and thus the length of a long bone could be used to predict the stature. Keeping this in view it is hypothesized that the linear, transverse, sagittal and circumferential dimensions of a long bone should also have a positive relationship with bone length almost in the same manner as a long bone length has it with stature. The present study, conducted on dry and fully ossified long bones; namely humerus, radius, ulna, femur, tibia and fibula aims at assessing the bilateral variations if any in the fragmentary measures of different long bones, correlation pattern between different fragmentary measurements and bone length, to formulate linear regression equations for estimation of bone length from fragmentary measurements and to identify certain new measurements for estimation of bone length, which have not been used by other researchers.

Fuzzy sets are sets whose elements have degrees of membership. Fuzzy set theory was formalized by Professor Lotfi Zadeh at the University of California in 1965 as an extension of the classical notion of set. In classical set theory, the membership of elements in a set is assessed in binary terms according to a bivalent condition an element either belongs or does not belong to the set. Fuzzy sets generalize classical sets are special cases of the membership functions of fuzzy sets, if the latter only take values 0 or 1. Classical bivalent sets are in fuzzy set theory usually called crisp sets. On the other hand fuzzy set is more specified than crisp set. It can take a decision between membership grade 0 to 1, i.e. unit interval [0, 1]. This book attempts to fill the needs of the algorithms of Newton’s method, Fixed-Point Iteration method and Bisection method which are used to solve fuzzy non-linear equations for the linear fuzzy real number. The procedures to obtain solutions of different types of fuzzy linear equations have also been discussed. The book has been outlined into four chapters.

A new approach to the geometrically non-linear dynamic

The purpose of the present book is to study the theoretical investigation the non-linear dynamic behaviour of a Glare 3 hybrid composite panel and elastic rectangular isotropic plates with fully clamped boundary conditions at large deflections. The part II of this book is the study the non-linear free vibration of hybrid composite plates made of a new aircraft structural material called Glare 3 using a new improved approach.This approach is based on a model which has been applied to the non-linear free vibrations of beams and to non-linear free and forced vibrations of rectangular plates. The part III is to study the geometrically nonlinear dynamic behaviour of thin elastic rectangular isotropic plates with fully clamped boundary conditions at large deflections. The geometrical nonlinearity is expressed by the nonlinear strain-displacement relationships of Von Karman. The model has been obtained using the multi-mode theory based on Hamilton’s principle and spectral analysis. The model is used to determine the effect of the excitation frequency and the applied level of forces on the dynamic response at large vibration amplitudes.
