Means of vocabulary development in Hebrew and Arabic in modern age

This book deal with the means followed by both Arabic and Hebrew separately to extend and develop their lexicons in modern age, particularly starting from the so-called "Hebrew revival" at the end of the eighteenth century as for Hebrew, and from the so-called "modern linguistic renaissance" of Arabic at the end of the nineteenth century. Moreover, this study aims to compare and contrast the methods followed by each language in this regard

Yarn Formation in Friction Spinning

Yarn Formation in Friction Spinning

The technique of cotton spinning crystallized at the beginning of the industrial revolution. The ring spinning was perfected at the end of the 19th century. The first ideas, which led to the era of open-end spinning, appeared at the end of the 19th century. The basic principle of open-end spinning is the separation of twisting and yarn winding. Compared with ring spinning, open-end spinning increases machine productivity several times. There are many kinds of open-end spinning systems, which include rotor spinning, air-jet spinning, and friction spinning. The first friction-spinning system was patented by Platt-Saco Lowell in 1967 and then developed and presented at the 1983 ITMA exhibition in Milan. The friction-spinning system was also developed by Ernst Fehrer in 1973 and developed and commercialized as DREF-1, DREF-2, DREF-3, DREF-5, DREF-2000 and DREF-3000. The basic principle of all machines is similar. The maximum delivery speed in staple yarn spinning can be achieved by friction open-end spinning machine up to 500 m/min. This machine is very powerful in producing the multi-component yarns in form of core-sheath composite yarns.

Indian Foreign and Security Policy at the End of the 20th Century

Indian Foreign and Security Policy at the End of the 20th Century

At the end of the 20th century India is the largest democracy in the world with a booming economy, a nuclear arsenal and the fourth largest military in the world. Indian foreign and security policy at the end of the 20th century is driven by the desire to become a major power on the global stage, inter alia through the acquisition of a permanent seat at the UN Security Council. The initial part of this book will cover the normative, institutional and historical basis of the Indian foreign and security policy. This research is divided into two main sections, the first covering India's foreign policy and the second focusing on security aspects. On the foreign policy level India's bilateral relations with the four global players US, EU, Russia and China will be discussed. India's relations with these four global players and the way in which they view India's major power ambitions will be significant in determining whether or not India is seen as a major power on the world stage. India's role in the UN and its various contributions in peacekeeping missions around the world will also be considered. The second section will deal with India's nuclear deterrent and the Indo-Pakistani relations with the aim to discover whether its security policy matches its major power ambitions.

Mythologies of an Everyday Landscape

Mythologies of an Everyday Landscape

Henry Ford purchased property in 1923 in Sudbury, Massachusetts in order to preserve an historic inn associated with the poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Over the next twenty years, his mission expanded to create an idealized New England landscape and to create a way of living on the land representative of a specific American pastoral identity. This study will demonstrate that this change of intention is one which elevates a notion of (subjective) memory over that of (objective) history; thus, highlighting Ford’s contentious relationship with the discipline of historic preservation at the beginning of the twentieth century. It will also show that Ford’s endeavor represents not only his own private dialogue with a cultural landscape, but also is emblematic of a public engagement with the pastoral during the early twentieth century.
