Reparations to the Families of Missing Persons in BiH

Reparations to the Families of Missing Persons in BiH

The conflict in former Yugoslavia made 25.000 to 30.000 people victims of enforced disappearances, of which approximately 10.000 are still missing without trace. The book written in 2010 was meant to point the neuralgic spots in BiH reparations to the families of missing persons, evaluate the overall system as well as give certain recommendations, which could be used in the future practice to improve the fate of the vulnerable group concerned. Hence, the research question was: are the currently available national and international legal instruments designed to seek reparations a sufficient mean to get it in case of the Bosnian disappeared and their families? The book has examined how the reparations so far granted to this group of victims fulfill the conditions of: completeness, comprehensiveness, complexity, coherence, finality and munificence. The construction of the dissertation has enabled a broader insight to current developments in the theory of reparations to victims of disappearances, as well as to the practice of seeking reparations for enforced disappearances in Latin America, but also in Europe in order to use some models and good practices in the case of BIH.

Australian Families of Missing People

Australian Families of Missing People

Increasing numbers of Australians and people across the globe go missing each year and this has triggered an expression of national and international concern. Australia has been at the forefront in developing initiatives to combat this problem. People of all ages still go missing, and for the families of those who disappear, the loss is traumatic. Research on the families of long-term missing persons, to this point, has been limited. Therefore, familial experience is not well understood. Little is known of the trauma, loss and grief associated with a missing person within these families. The findings of this study highlight the need for a biopsychosocial framework to understand the ways in which families experience the psychological presence of a person who is physically absent. This framework acknowledges that a person goes missing from a particular social context and that the ambiguity of the loss and the grief the family experiences does not lessen the continuing bond they share with their loved one.

Public Policy Implementation in Developing Countries

Public Policy Implementation in Developing Countries

The human rights of persons with disabilities acquired official international recognition in 1982 when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the World Program of Action Concerning Disabled Persons. In the same year the Kenya government crafted The National Programme of Action Concerning Persons with Disabilities in response to this call. In the year 2003 the first disability law; Parsons with Disabilities Act (PDA) was enacted. Since then a number of efforts have been made to promote human rights of persons with disabilities in Kenya. Some of these efforts have included inclusion of disability rights in the bill of rights, creation of National Council for Persons with Disabilities and Disability Fund. The disability policies have however experienced implementation failure due to lack of political good, inadequate capacity of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities and lack of awareness of rights of PWDs.
